摘要：nanotechnologyisarapidlygrowingindustrythathaselicitedmuchconcernbecauseofthelackofavailabletoxicitydata.exposuretoultrafineparticlesmaybeariskforthedevelopmentofvasculardiseasesduetodysfunctionofthevascularendothelium.increasedendothelialadhesivenessisacriticalfirststepinthedevelopmentofvasculardiseases,suchasatherosclerosis.thehypothesisthataluminananoparticlesincreaseinflammatorymarkersoftheendothelium,measuredbytheinductionofadhesionmoleculesaswellastheadhesionofmonocytestotheendothelialmonolayer,wastested.followingcharacterizationofaluminananoparticlesbytransmissionelectronmicroscopy(tem),electrondiffraction,andparticlesizedistributionanalysis,endothelialcellswereexposedtoaluminaatvariousconcentrationsandtimes.bothporcinepulmonaryarteryendothelialcellsandhumanumbilicalveinendothelialcellsshowedincreasedmrnaandproteinexpressionofvcam-1,icam-1,andelam-1.furthermore,humanendothelialcellstreatedwithaluminaparticlesshowedincreasedadhesionofactivatedmonocytes.thealuminaparticlestendedtoagglomerateatphysiologicalphinserum-containingmedia,whichledtoarangeofparticlesizesfromnanotomicronsizeduringtreatmentconditions.thesedatashowthataluminananoparticlescanelicitaproinflammatoryresponseandthuspresentacardiovasculardiseaserisk.
